CONSTRUCTION OF AN UNDERGROUND WATER TANK AT MAGOGONI PRIMARY SCHOOL IN KAUMA SUB-COUNTY.
Scope of Works:
The project involved construction of a 100m3 clean water underground tank. The tank had overall dimensions of 9.1m * 8m * 3m high extents. The construction at first involved the excavation of a trial pit of size 1.5m * 1.5m * 2.7m deep so as so access the soil conditions of the location.
The following aspects of constructions were then done in accordance with the specifications.
- Earthworks- this involved site clearance, bulk excavation of the foundation, planking & strutting of excavations, backfilling & compaction, and loading/ carting away of surplus.
- Structural works- this involved surface compaction, 300mm backfilling of hardcore, 50mm murram blinding, reinforcement works (T8 for column stirrups, T10, T12, & T16 for slab, beams and column reinforcements), 400mm thick reinforced base slab, 300mm*300mm concrete column, 250mm thick concrete tank walls, 150mm thick cover slab, formworks (marine ply boards reinforced with timber frames/props) plastering and water proofing the inside walls by use of master seal 501.
- Accessories- this involved construction of manhole chambers, installation of breather vents, and installation of plumbing pipes and fittings for water supply.
