Project Description

ROSSLYN RIDGE PORTABLE WATER PLUMBING PROJECT.

Scope of works

The project involved installation of a portable plumbing system in a closed community system at the Rosslyn ridge. The plumbing system enabled supply of water for 60 No. residential houses, 1 No. recreation center (swimming pool, kitchen, restaurant), 1 No. pump house and 1 No. security house. The following are the specific aspects of the project.

  1. Supply and installation of PN 16 HDPE Pipelines complete with appropriate pipe fittings including but not limited to electrofusion Bends, Elbow, Tees, Reducers, Gate valves, pipe to pipe connections, anchors, and all other associated electrofusion joinery fittings. The joinery method used was electrofusion.

For the main ring, 2 lines of 110mm PN16 HDPE piping was buried under the ground with 1200-gauge DPM to control roots invasion. A distance of 2,750m was covered in the main ring.

For the sub mains, 2 lines of 63mm PN16 HDPE piping installed in precast U-drain Channel and Metallic sleeves (at road crossings) along the paved walkways, complete with heavy duty/trafficable covers and 1200- gauge DPM lining to control roots invasion. A distance of 1,870m was covered in the sub-rings.

For Branch to houses, 2 lines of 32mm PN16 HDPE piping was buried under the ground with 1200-gauge DPM to control roots invasion. A distance of 1,130m was covered during the branching to individual houses.

  1. Undertake Pipe Integration of the new pipeline system to the termination of the old system.

Connections to the metering, 1 line of 25mm PN16 HDPE piping buried under the ground with 1200-gauge DPM to control roots invasion.

  1. Supply and Installation of Precast Concrete U-drains. This involved casting and curing of class 25 U-drains and covers for passage at pavements in the location. A distance of 600m of precast U-drains was installed during the project.
  2. Concrete/ Masonry works. These works comprised of Insitu construction of manhole chambers and covers, for ensuring periodic inspection of lines and for housing valves for connection (sluice valves, air valves, gate valves, pressure regulating valves and strainer valves). A total of 36 manhole chambers were constructed in the project.
  3. Conducting a Operation and Maintenance Training to the clients technicians on the working of the new system. A total of 12 technicians were trained on the usage of the system in aspects of operation, safety, and emergency.
